About the job

Golden West Apprenticeships in partnership with Balonne Shire Council are seeking motivated and enthusiastic candidates to undertake a Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology Apprenticeship. The purpose of this Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology Apprenticeship in St George is to provide the successful applicant with the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge through completing on the job working experience and training with an employer whilst completing a nationally recognised course of training through a registered training organisation.

What to expect

Light Vehicle Mechanics are responsible for diagnosing and repairing all kinds of problems with cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, airplanes, heavy equipment, etc. They commonly work on a variety of different types of vehicles, which requires them to have an understanding of how each one operates differently from the next. As an Automotive Mechanical apprentice you will learn to read and interpret diagrams and schematics in order to understand how various components of a vehicle interact with one another. You will also develop strong problem-solving skills to identify what’s causing a particular issue and determine the best way to repair it. Day-to-day tasks may include: - discussing problems with car drivers or vehicle operators to discover faults - listening to engines, fitting and operating special test equipment, and test-drive vehicles - repairing or replacing worn or faulty parts by removing assemblies such as engines, transmissions, differentials
