In partnership with Origin Energy, MIGAS is seeking two Mechanical Fitter Apprentices who want to build a long-term career for themselves with a major local employer in the Western Downs. This apprenticeship opportunity is part of the 2025 Origin Apprentice and Trainee Intake with MIGAS Apprentices & Trainees.

About the job

As a Mechanical Fitting Apprentice hosted with Origin, you will work varying rosters depending on the requirements of your team over a 76-hour fortnight. Your on-the-job training will involve being mentored by industry specialists who will give you hands-on exposure and training on preventative and corrective maintenance activities across a number of Origin's Assets including Gas Plants, Wellsites and Water Treatment Facilities. In this role you will work towards the completion of a MEM30219 Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade (Fitting) qualification over 4 years.

About you

We are looking for candidates who are serious about completing a Mechanical Fitting Apprenticeship, so you will be mechanically minded and genuinely interested in the way things work and fit together. You will have a practical approach to your work and love working with your hands. Coupled with a strong desire to build a career, you will be driven to learn new skills and relish taking on new challenges by approaching problem solving with a creative and innovative mind. To be successful in this position, we’re looking for candidates with the following attributes: - Completed or be in the process of completing your Year 12 certificate or equivalent - Maintain a high-level focus on safety and the environment following Origin safety processes and procedures - Work collaboratively in designated teams - Complete tasks to the highest quality following instructions of supervising tradespeople - Good mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills - Excellent analytical skills and a proactive attitude - Commit to the completion of the qualification, submit assessments as required and attend all allocated shifts - Ability to confidently communicate in an effective manner - You are ready to learn and develop strong health, safety and environment values and principles, while also committing to personal learning and development - You are able to work flexible hours, including shifts of 11 hours in duration, (including weekend/public holiday work) as part of a rotating roster based on a 76-hour fortnight - Able to work in physically challenging conditions when required (e.g. outdoors, in varied weather conditions) - You have reliable transport to and from work and hold a current driver’s licence with P Plate minimum - Ability to pass a Pre-Employment Medical, Drug and Alcohol Screen, and Police Check
